However, as soon as I grabbed that Warrior's Poison Sword II I ditched the shield as it is a two-handed sword. I was using a sword/shield combo for most of the game, and it did help a lot in the early game. I did it later in the game and stumbled across it after killing the chimeras. The Poison Sword can be found in their den, and theoretically you go drop in, scoop it up, and dip without engaging the chimeras. This weapon can be found during the "Neighbor Troubles" mission for the clerics, where you are told to go kill three chimeras. My favorite melee weapon and the one I finished the game with was Warrior's Poison Sword II. (Some of the DoT effects are great, but chaining hits and doing damage is more important).Īll that said, later in the game it is MUCH easier to use ranged weapons than rely on melee weapons, I found that out in my second play-through after insisting on making a melee only Berzerker for my first play-through. TLDR, the most damaging one handed weapon you can lay your hands on is MY choice. Stun damage in this game is not really a thing, but I have seen pretty much any weapon or shield knock over enemies, but by the time you knock them over you are out of stamina so are lucky to get more than one hit in before they get back up. Against animals a shield will block most of the damage. PERSONALLY I prefer one handed with a shield as when you are doing duels, a shield will be the difference between receiving no damage vs potentially dying. Since you will choose a faction it boils down to preference between one and two handed.
To me the "best" melee weapon is based on 2 criteria, your faction and your preference between one or two handed.
